Lakehome Remodel
About
This charming cabin had been in the family for several generations. It had charm, memories, and more than a few well worn nicks and dents from many good times spent gathered inside.
The home needed an update, an uplift, and a
re-arrangement to accommodate the family's current needs. Our Idea was to remove the wall between the kitchen an dining, and close in the wall from the kitchen to the hallway. This would gain valuable kitchen & gathering space and reorient the room to be a social area. With a great view toward the lake, this is where most of the family time would be spent.
We removed the tiny island, and opened the kitchen in a U-shape toward the dining. Without the width to gain a new more functional island, we created a bar extending from the kitchen counter. This gave more seating for breakfasts, good spots for casual reading or viewing areas so individuals could do their own thing, while being a part of the larger group.
We came up with several updated to the larger room, accentuating the timbers by adding timber trim through the kitchen, and updating the stair and railings, while keeping the original stylistic balusters.
The Homeowner also wanted a Master Suite designed.
The Owners desired more space in the master bedroom, an extension to their closet space, and to add a master bath. There wasn't room in the current master for this, so we had to carefully plan rearranging the main floor walls to gain the bathroom area. We decided to take some entry hallway space, most of the large walk in entry which usually didn't get used for coats.
Then, to give the home more curb appeal, add a new front entry and interior porch, giving them back the coatroom in a more useable way.
Now we had room for the master suite they deserved.
More room for relaxation, a private bath to allow a getaway when all the family is visiting, and space for the coats and shoes? I don't think that is too much to ask.
With a new fireplace and entertainment, go ahead and let the family get a bit rowdy, they won't disturb you in your mini-oasis.
We gained a functional walk-through closet and double vanity sink with a walk in tile shower. Go ahead take extra time and use up all the hot water... if you can. We upgraded to an on-demand water heater with capacity for the whole family, as well as a long shower for the parents when they need a little break.
